Christmas is a popular and well celebrated holiday. As the name implies, it is a holiday created by Christians to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. However, over the years, aspects of the holiday have been adopted by many different cultures. It is celebrated all over the world, each place having their own ways of celebrating. That can vary from opening a gift on Christmas Eve or putting a pickle in the tree. These traditions are especially distinctive in different cultures.
Japan has the same concept of Christmas as us, but there’s a small twist. Christmas is not seen as a religious holiday in Japan, but as a celebration to unite families. What makes their celebration unique is that instead of a home-cooked meal, they partake in a Kentucky Fried Chicken feast.
Greece holds Christmas near and dear to their hearts as a religious holiday since most Greeks are Orthodox. They celebrate by decorating trees, but not just that–they decorate boats too!
Australians have a very untraditional way of celebrating Christmas. Christmas falls during the summer months for Australia, which can get extremely hot. Australians had to make some new traditions. They decided to have Christmas on the beach with a barbecue dinner and a game of backyard cricket.
All around the world Christmas is celebrated in many fascinating ways. These are just a few of the many diverse celebrations of different cultures around the world.
