Groundhog Day was on Thursday, February 2, 2023. In the early Pennsylvania morning, crowds of people were anxiously awaiting for the groundhog to appear. This day is celebrated when the groundhog emerges from his burrow, and through the appearance or lack thereof of its shadow, revelers try to determine what future weather will be like. If the groundhog sees its shadow, then we will expect winter to last a few more weeks; however, if the groundhog doesn't see its shadow due to cloudiness of the weather, then we will expect spring to arrive early. For this year's Groundhog Day, we will be expecting just a few weeks of winter until the arrival of spring. Groundhog Day first started back in 1887, which was the first to feature a rodent meteorologist. Its significance was forever cemented in pop culture with the 1993 romantic comedy film Groundhog Day. Today, Groundhog Day is still celebrated and beloved by many people.
