Showing Love for Kipling
Updated: Mar 27, 2023
In 2011, Disney released a new show that captured the tiny hearts of many children across the US, specifically due to the characters. Did you know that the 7 foot Asian water monitor we know as Mrs. Kipling was indeed a real lizard? The lizard was best friends with character Ravi (played by actor Karan Brar) and had moved to New York with Ravi when he was adopted by the Ross Family. Kipling was quite a surprise at first; not your typical pet right? I mean, come on! Over half of Ravi’s room was a cage and play area specifically for Kipling. As the show went on, the love Ravi had for Mrs. K grew on us too! At the beginning of the show, Mrs. K. was thought to be a boy until she had many lizard babies. Interestingly enough, in reality Mrs K.’s name is Frank! So if you really think about it, Mrs. K, or should I say Frank, was a boy then a girl then a boy again, which is honestly a bit confusing. After I found out Kipling was real, I looked him up. Most of you are probably thinking, “Where is Frank now?” Sadly, Frank had passed away approximately at age 18. So, in honor of Frank I wrote this poem:
ODE TO FRANK
Late at night when I think
I think about Frank
When he smiled, I smiled
He made me watch Disney for a while
Frank is always in my heart
My love for another lizard will never start
Late at night when I think
I think about Frank.
Frank, from everyone at OSHS we miss you, and love you!
