Staff Spotlight: Mrs. Vowell

Our latest edition of the staff spotlight features the one and only Mrs. Vowell! Mrs. Vowell is one of our beloved math teachers who teaches Algebra I, Algebra II, PreCalculus, and Calculus. She attended Roane State Community College and Tennessee Tech and is now in her 19th year of teaching. She has stayed local, with 7 years of teaching 8th grade math and Algebra I at Oliver Springs Middle School, 2 years as a Math Coach at Dyllis Springs Elementary School and OSMS (while continuing to teach 8th grade Algebra I), and a current 10 years of teaching various levels of math at Oliver Springs High School.

During her 10 years of teaching at OSHS, Mrs. Vowell has taught Algebra I, Algebra II, SDC and non-SDC PreCalculus, AP Calculus, Applied Math, ACT Prep, and Career Exploration. Mrs. Vowell has a hard time choosing her favorite math class to teach. Anyone who has had her classes knows that she loves trigonometry, “...and PreCal is packed with it.” Currently, Mrs. Vowell is going with PreCal as her favorite class to teach! She has stated that “[it] changes between PreCalculus and Calculus,” however. When asked, Mrs. Vowell declared that one piece of advice she would offer to her students would be to “learn to forgive.” Thank you, Mrs. Vowell, for supplying the students of OSHS with a near-endless supply of math knowledge!
