Student Spotlight: Caden Whedbee

Updated: Mar 27, 2023

Caden Whedbee is a Oliver Springs High School freshman. He is a class officer (Sergeant at Arms), and he participates in scholars bowl and golf. Caden is also a very artistic person. He said that this started out as just an assignment in Ms. Hannah’s ecology class. The assignment was to draw a light switch plate to remind people that they need to turn off lights to conserve energy.

But this assignment soon escalated, and his poster was submitted to the Trane Energy Design Contest. The Trane Energy Design Contest’s purpose is to bring awareness to students about the fact that the Roane County School Board over the past few years has developed an energy infrastructure/conservation program across the school district that is guaranteed to reduce utility cost by over $6.9M over the next 16 years. The winner of the contest gets their light switch design displayed all across the county. Caden said that he did not think much of the contest until he heard that he had won. He also won the class design competition to create the new OSSN (Oliver Springs Sports Network) logo. As for his future, so far he has not really made any decisions yet, but we are sure that Caden will do great things.
