Halloween is right around the corner and a big part of the holiday is haunted houses!

For all the haunted house lovers here, we have the thing for you! We have taken all the haunted houses in the area and ranked them based on fright-factor.


5. Nashville Nightmare Haunted House

This haunted house located in the Madison neighborhood of Nashville takes a different approach to terror. They have several different attractions, including taking you through a condemned highschool, morgue, and outcast carnival! Nashville's Nightmare Haunted House really tries to go above and beyond with their attractions. If you do not like haunted houses, they understand! They provide several different spooky games for your enjoyment; they offer laser mazes, escape rooms, and so much more. If you're unsure about a haunted house, this is the one to go to!


4. The Scream Chamber

Located in the outskirts of Athens, The Scream Chamber takes your fears to the next level of horror. This house has had over 200 years of murder and death within it's walls. Some of the locals near the area say that they can hear screams even when there is not anyone there, while others say that it's a quiet, family-friendly place. The Scream Chamber offers overnight tours of this haunted attraction. They take you through the Cleage family house and give you a glimpse into the horror. Guests have said that they saw shadowy figures on the trail, smelled rotten flesh, and could hear whispers of unfortunate victims who came to their end 100 years ago.


3. Frightmare Manor

Located on the abandoned Jeremiah Lexer plantation in Morristown, it’s horror contains 20 acres of fright. Built on the real property of a serial killer, this place has several attractions. His victims experienced their end in the same walls as the main attraction. The main haunted house takes you through Lexer's house, basement, and through a maze. If going into a notorious serial killer's house is not your thing, there are always other options. Their backwoods attraction, where 31 of Lexer's victims have been found, is always a great option. This is the only haunted house in Tennessee known to have the scariest money-back challenge; if all of the activities at Frightmare are complete, you get your money back, but only if you don't chicken out. There are several self guided tours starting at $25, ax throwing is $5, and the nationally recognized Frightmare Challenge $15.


2. Dead Man’s Farm

Dead Man's Farm is an extremely well known haunted house in Tennessee. This Philadelphia house is not for the faint of heart. Built on a real farm in Tennessee, this haunted house has a terrifying back story - a tale full of danger, agony, plague, heartbreak, and murder. They have several attractions including the Bludgeon House (the main haunted house), a haunted corn maze, virtual reality games, escape rooms and so much more. Tickets are available online or onsite. Prices depend on what package you choose, the lowest starting at $20. There is a parking fee, which is $5. Would you dare to step into this horror?


  1. Screamville

Located in Knoxville, this haunted house is sure to give you a scare. It was rated best haunted house in Tennessee in 2018, as well as best haunted corn maze. In 2019, it was ranked 31st in the United States. Screamville is also on the cheaper side for haunted houses, which could be one reason it is so popular. Screamville’s prices vary depending on the package you purchase; the packages start at $25. The theme this year is “Cursed Acres,” with a haunted house and a haunted trail/corn maze to match it. The Screamville website explains why it is so cursed, but some of the events were a little too much to be put in a public newspaper. The curse of the Screamville Farm was first discovered by the Branson family. Several unknown people and creatures were said to roam the farm late at night. The Branson family vanished in 1934 and since then 12 families have lived there. All 12 families had terrible stories from the farm, and 5 of the families mysteriously disappeared during the night. Do you have the guts to venture out into the fields?

Closest to Oliver Springs: Frightworks

Looking for a scary haunted house that is close to you? Frightworks Haunted House is the closest haunted house to Oliver Springs that is sure to keep you sacred! Located in Powell, Frightworks is a short 30 minutes away. Tickets start at 25 dollars per person. Fightworks is wheelchair accessible, and adaptable to weather. It is one of the most original and theatrical haunted attractions in the southeast. It is described by Kristin Combs of Visit Knoxville as “one giant haunted house… with multiple terrifying fright zones.”


Family Friendly: Mayfield Haunted Trail

Located near Athens, Tennessee, Mayfield Haunted Trail is a perfect family friendly spook. They have pumpkin patches, corn mazes, and a spooky trail. The trail takes place on the burial site of a 19th century judge. It is said that some spooky ghosts are roaming the fields, looking for vengeance.
