Why I Don't Love Valentine's Day
Valentine’s Day is held in mutual respect and adoration for one's significant other, family, and friends. A single day out of the whole year is set aside to demonstrate our esteem for the people who mean so much to us. Well, I think that's a little abysmal. I do not understand why we as a people cannot normalize affection and gift-giving usually exclusively seen on Valentine’s Day. Why can’t this be given on any other day a person wakes up and decides to make someone feel loved? Whenever this happens, the recipient will ask, “What's the special occasion?” But there does not need to be a special occasion for a person to exhibit appreciation. Personally, I have never had a significant other on this day in all of my seventeen sad years, so I might be a little prejudiced toward the subject. I’m not entirely against Valentine’s Day; I just don’t want people to use it as an excuse not to show love on all the other days. My papa gets me little gifts, though, so that's nice.
