End of the Football Season
The Oliver Springs football team played their biggest rival, Coalfield, on Friday, October 21st. It was a rough game, full of school spirit driving outrageous extremes made by our strong players. Even though we underestimated them by far, the loss was but a small lagging point in our winning streak. The first playoff game against Cosby was a great win that truly showed this team is unlike any we have had. Jackson Jett had several great runs. “It was a team effort,” he says. “I wouldn’t have been able to make it without the team and the coaches. The line blocked well, I couldn’t have done without them.” The first playoff pressure was definitely not a problem, showing the talent that their new coach has extracted from these young players. On a wet, slippery, numbingly cold field, they played their next playoff game against Cloudland. They pulled out all their effort to get to this point and got their well-deserved rematch against Coalfield. It was an exhausting, brutal game against the icy weather and a cruel team. Despite the football team's valiant efforts, this sadly ended in defeat.
It was a rocky start to the season, but they really turned it around by the Greenback game. Without a doubt, the Oliver Spring High School football team will continue to grow as a team and become unbeatable. Considering the major struggles the team faced this year and the fact they still made it to the playoffs, Tyler Harper has done great things for the team. Unfortunately this year we say a sad goodbye to the seniors: Kane Gouge, Raygen Shepherd, Gavin Young, Natalie Elliott, Chase Lee, and Mason Brown. We can’t wait to see the team represent the school next year and make us proud!
