Fall 2022 Band Competition Results
It was a sunny, windy day on Saturday, September 23rd when the Oliver Springs Bobcat Marching Band performed in the 2022-2023 Karns 13th annual marching band competition. They won first place in percussion, color guard, and overall for class 1A. The competing bands were: Alcoa, Anderson County, Bearden, Central, Claiborne County, Cleveland, Farragut, Halls, Hardin Valley Academy, Heritage, Jefferson County, Lakeway Christian Academy, Maryville, Northview Academy, Powell, Rockwood, Seymour, and West. At their next competition in Hardin Valley on October 1st, they placed first again in color guard, percussion, and band. Due to extreme weather conditions, the band participated in clinics for color guard, percussion, hornline, and leadership. They learned new skills to increase their talent for future performances, and this allowed a way to bond with other bands. It might have been an experience forged from unfortunate circumstances, but it was a new experience that hopefully will become more than a one time deal. In the words of the band director, Mr. Micheals, “Their performances were phenomenal. This year has certainly been strenuous considering the preponderance of our band is brand new to this, or has mild experience. They have done beyond amazing with the level of effort and commitment given by these students.” So, go congratulate an OS band kid, and look in our next edition for updates on the last competition at Harriman High School.
